Heron Tower in City of London is on ‘lockdown’ after reports of person ‘falling from height’

  • Police have received reports of a person ‘falling from a height’ in Bishopsgate
  • Emergency services arrived on scene at just after 2pm and incident is ‘ongoing’
  • The public are being urged to avoid the busy central London area

Heron Tower in the City of London has gone into ‘lockdown‘ after reports of a person ‘falling from a height’.

Emergency services arrived on scene at just after 2pm on Thursday and the incident is ‘ongoing’ at the 46-storey building in central London.

Chief Superintendent Rob Atkin, from the City of London Police, said: ‘Officers from the City of London Police were called to reports of a person falling from height on Houndsditch.

There are reports that parts of the building are now on ‘lockdown’ in the aftermath of the incident, including the Sushi Samba restaurant. 

Workers in the building took to social media such as Twitter and said they were ‘locked down’ in the building. It is unclear whether this is still the case.

Witness footage from the scene shows a heavy police presence and multiple emergency service vehicles at the scene

‘Police arrived on scene at around 2pm.

‘Cordons are currently in place and the public are urged to avoid the area if possible while emergency services remain in attendance.’

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: We were called at 2.02pm today to reports of an incident on Bishopsgate, City of London.

‘We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, medics in two fast response cars and a clinical team leader.

‘We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

‘The incident is ongoing and we are working with our emergency service colleagues.’

Some office workers and residents living nearby are said to have witnessed the person falling, and confirmed the building had ‘gone into lockdown’ as police responded to the incident.

No further details have yet been released by the City of London Police.
