Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield call out a guest for flouting lockdown

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were left furious on Thursday’s This Morning after a ‘brazen’ caller revealed she was planning to flout lockdown to celebrate her birthday at her sister’s house.

The two presenters, aged 39 and 58, were left horrified during a phone-in segment with Vanessa Feltz as a viewer called ‘Emma’ revealed her ploy to break government guidelines and even stay the night at her sibling’s home.

Emma insisted that they both live alone and have no underlying illness or COVID-19 symptoms. The caller also stressed that she hasn’t seen anyone so far apart from members of the public during her visit to the shops.

Britons have had to avoid meeting up with friends and families since March 16, a week before the full lockdown came in on March 23.

Yet the two presenters were left unimpressed by the caller with Holly pointing out the government guidelines of only being allowed to see one person outside your household while remaining a social distance outdoors.

While Phillip despairingly exclaimed: ‘Nothing we say is going to stop you is it? You sound like you’re going to go no matter what.’

To which an adamant Emma replied: ‘Nope!’ as she insisted that she wasn’t doing anything wrong and would still celebrate her birthday with her sister.

Emma even joked that she was more concerned about her sister serving ‘couscous’ at her birthday meal than the deadly virus, which has killed 35,704 and infected 248K people in the UK so far.

Holly and Phillip were left raising their eyebrows and shaking their heads over the caller.

Viewers were also left furious over the scenes as they took to Twitter to call out Emma’s brazen attitude to lockdown.

One person said: ‘People like Emma on @thismorning make me sick. I have been alone since lockdown began and had my birthday in April but we didn’t break the lockdown.

‘I actually had a great day opening my cards and presents with family and evening drinks and games all via Skype. Selfish stupid.’

A different user put: ‘I’m still gobsmacked by Emma, stupid stupid woman. The problem is that so many people are backing her but you won’t be so mouthy when she takes up your ventilator space will you.

‘I just don’t understand why the team let the call through to the live studio?? #ThisMorning.’

Another follower commented: ‘@thismorning “Emma” on flouting lockdown.

‘Makes me so angry people carrying on like nothing’s happening whilst vulnerable people are shielding and lock themselves away from everyone and been forgotten whilst other selfish people like this carry on without a care in the world.’

While a different account added: ‘@thismorning how selfish is Emma!! “I’m going to my sisters overnight” and doesn’t care at all!! It’s my birthday soon and I will be seeing one person who lives with me!

‘This is the reason why this virus will be ongoing for longer and longer.’

In between stifled laughter, he admitted: ‘I am sorry, we might have been a bit rude during the break and that might be why we are laughing. I wish we could tell you!’

To which a cheeky and giggling Holly added: ‘But we just can’t, I’m afraid!’

Fay said: ‘I was trying to bear with it. I knew what the situation would be with dentists in lockdown.

‘It was desperate measures. I was crying and didn’t know what to do. I started with tweezers tying to loosen the tooth. I got my husband’s pliers and tried to remove it myself. I just wanted it out.’

Fay previously told the BBC that the pain was ‘worse than childbirth’ and that she had never experienced anything like it.
