EXCLUSIVE ‘Rejection can be heartbreaking’: Home And Away star Olivia Deeble has revealed the dark side of acting and the secret tips for aspiring actors to get ahead in the industry

Best known for playing Raffy Morrison on Home And Away between 2016 and 2019, Olivia said the soap was one of only three roles she nabbed from more than 60 unsuccessful auditions.

‘I have gone for a lot of auditions in my career. I’d say 60-ish. And that’s not counting short films or commercials. I have only landed three of those. Admittedly, Little Lunch, Home and Away and SSSBR were a great three to get!’ she said.

Olivia said rejection is part and parcel of becoming an actor, and she has been disappointed numerous times by missing out on movie parts or never being offered a callback to roles after initial auditions.

When asked for her tips on standing out at auditions, she said: ‘Come prepared, know your lines, make strong choices and do back story work.’

‘Be yourself when you first meet everyone, the casting directors actually really want you to do well and are on your side,’ Olivia added.

She said that being authentic as an actor was also important on social media, even in the face of awful things haters or trolls may throw stars’ way.

‘I haven’t received a whole lot of hate, when I do however I just delete the comment or will block people if they’re being particularly aggressive. I think it’s so cowardly to comment something mean about how someone looks or their acting work.

‘People who do it can be insecure and not able to assess what is actually going on with themselves, so why give them the time to effect you?’ she explained.
