A savvy new trend is circling social media where Australian shoppers are transforming a $35 Kmart bamboo laundry hamper into an organised bin storage unit.
The ‘bin hack’ involves removing the laundry bag from the bamboo frame and inserting a $42 matte grey 30-litre rubbish bin.
One customer who saw the hack online decided to try it for herself and share the results to the Kmart Home Décor & Hacks Australia Facebook group – which has more than 355,000 members.
‘Massive thank you to whomever came up with this beautiful, genius hack!’ Georgie said.
‘Tubs for the recycling and the top for the soft plastics for Redcycle! I particularly love that it can sweep under easily and the bin is no longer scratching the floor.’

‘The bin is sitting on the two bars that were included and meant to hold the fabric hamper,’ Georgie said.
The budget laundry frame hamper is built with two shelves that are the perfect size for storing two Kmart $7 medium containers.
The top bench is also ideal for storing plants, fruit bowls or small appliances, as each shelf can only hold a maximum capacity of five kilograms.
The organised bin hack would’ve cost Georgie $91 in total.

Georgie’s social media post was well received by others part of the Facebook group and was ‘liked’ more than 400 times.
‘I love this! I might pop a small set of wheels on the bottom so I can move it around easily,’ one customer said.
‘Literally life changing!’ another said, a third added: ‘Love this! Just ordered.’
The bamboo frame has also received positive reviews on the Kmart website and is available across store locations.
