I’m A Celebrity fans lash out over brutal ice bath challenge

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! viewers lashed out over a ‘dangerous’ and ‘cruel’ challenge during Thursday night’s episode.

Jack Vidgen, Grant Denyer, Pettifleur Berenger and Travis Varcoe were required to pump a lever at the bottom of a tank filled with ice cold water, in order to win points for their teams. 

After the challenge saw the stars wrapped in emergency blankets to prevent hypothermia, and Jack admitting that he thought he would ‘pass away’, fans of the show accused producers for going too far on social media.

‘This was such a dangerous challenge! Who thought of that? All that pain for seven stars??’ one angry viewer posted on Twitter.   

‘Let’s not do that challenge next year, huh? That was dangerous and borderline cruel,’ another said.

‘This challenge was totally not okay,’ shared one, as well as another who wrote: ‘You’ve actually gone too far with that challenge, and the fact the hosts thought it was funny just makes it worse. Poor form by everyone, except the contestants.’

It wasn’t long into the challenge when the foursome began shaking uncontrollably and screaming out in pain.   

‘It hurts. It’s hard to take a breath in,’ Grant shouted, as his entire complexion went red with cold. 

Travis also gasped for air as he shouted, ‘oh my God,’ while Pettifleur shivered and groaned in pain.

Jack seemed to be the most affected by the agonising ordeal, with medical staff seen comforting the pop star following the challenge.

Wrapped in a space blanket to prevent him from getting hypothermia, a shaking Jack revealed that he was in so much pain.   

‘Coming out of the water afterwards, I literally thought that I was passing away,’ he later said in a piece to camera.

It comes after Toni Pearen was left sobbing after being bitten on the face multiple times by snakes on Tuesday night’s episode. 

The former Australia’s Funniest Home Videos host, 48, placed her head inside the box while several jungle carpet pythons slithered around her.

She was bitten on the face five times, afterwards sobbing that she wanted to go home and see her children.

Fans were left enraged about the situation, with many posting on social media, insisting that the show should have called the challenge off.

One person watching Tweeted: ‘How on earth did they let this carry on? Blooming disgusting!’

Another wrote: ‘Disgraceful. Where is the care for the contestant that she is bitten and they leave her in?’
