iPhone feature that allows you to share shopping list in Notes app with the whole family

REVEALED: The little-known iPhone feature that allows you to share your shopping list with your friends and family in real time

  • Shoppers have discovered a little-known iPhone feature for sharing grocery lists
  • Phone users can invite anyone to view or edit their iCloud notes or folders
  • Everyone sharing the note can see most updated version when someone edits

Shoppers have discovered a little-known iPhone feature that allows them to share their grocery list in real time with family, friends or housemates.

With the Notes app, Australians can invite anyone to view or edit their iCloud notes or folders as long as the device is connected to the internet.

So when someone ticks off an item on a to-do list, edits a shopping list, add an attachment or tweaks a project, everyone sharing the note or folder can see the most updated version.

Dozens of phone users said the feature was particularly handy for families who can add items to their shared grocery list whenever, wherever so whoever’s doing the shop can grab the products.

How do you add someone to a note?

‘So everybody but me is probably doing this already but maybe some will benefit. I have a Note that is shared with my wife called “Groceries”,’ a man wrote on Facebook.

‘It appears in both of our Notes apps and is updated in real-time when one of us changes it. This is very useful. Either of us can recognise a need and the one who goes to the store (me) will know about it.’

The man explained how Siri also plays a part in the feature, saying the voice-controlled personal assistant can add things to existing notes or create new notes.

‘If I say “Hey Siri, add garlic to note groceries”, it will magically appear on both her phone and mine,’ he said.

Many described the feature as ‘genius’ and a ‘game changer’ because they can add staple items such as milk and bread to the shopping list as soon as they run out.
