Irish star Aisling Bea, who stars in the much-anticipated remake of cult holiday film Home Alone, has vented her frustration on social media after some fans didn’t like her English accent.
The 37-year-old plays Carol in Home Sweet Home Alone, mother to 10-year-old Max (Archie Yates), who, like Kevin McCallister in the original, gets left to his own devices when his parents forget to take him on holiday.
However, when the film’s trailer was released yesterday, Bea’s attempt at an English accent sparked a flurry of tweets – with many apparently disconcerted that she’d ditched her usual Irish lilt in favour of a English accent.

Bea, clearly frustrated with the avalanche of tweets, took to social media last night to explain exactly why she couldn’t use her own intonation – and showed off a few other accents while she was there too, dipping into Texan, Scottish and Australian.
She said: ‘To everybody who has been wondering online why I have an English accent in the new Home Alone movie, it’s because… the character’s English.

The star took to Twitter last night to explain Carol’s accent, saying: ‘To everybody who has been wondering online why I have an English accent in the new Home Alone movie, it’s because… the character’s English.’
She added: ‘If she was Irish, she would speak very much like I do, because I am from Ireland. But, this character is not from Ireland, she’s from England.’
Later, Bea showed off an impressive Yorkshire accent suggesting that if people wanted to see her with her native intonation, they could watch her in This Way Up instead

Archie Yates, pictured in Home Sweet Home Alone, is best known for playing Yorki in the 2019 comedy-drama Jojo Rabbit.

Archie, 12, portrays Max Mercer in the reboot and his character gets left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays.
Max then protects the family home when a married couple attempt to break-in to retrieve a priceless heirloom.
Ellie Kemper, 44, Kenan Thompson, 43, and Rob Delaney, 44, also star in the family comedy directed by Dan Mazer with a script by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell.
Macaulay also will make a cameo appearance reprising his role as Kevin from the first two Home Alone movies.
