The transfer window may have closed but there are still gems to be signed up on free transfers including Jack Wilshere, who in a bid to prove his worth is keeping up his fitness by training in the park.
The former England international was released at the start of October by West Ham United despite the midfielder still having a year to serve on his £100,000 contract.
Wilshere endured an injury blighted two years at West Ham where he only featured in 16 Premier League matches.
But the midfielder has stated he has been fit for the last eight months and trained with his organisation NCF Elites that helps develop young players at a ‘football school of excellence’.
The brief video shows the former Arsenal star working on a three-man training drill, before he shoots narrowly wide of the post on the bobbly park pitch surface.
Having featured in pre-season for West Ham, the midfielder still looks keen to prove to interested teams he is over his most recent injuries and can still play an important role at the top level.
Wilshere is now one of the most talented free agents currently without a club but his fitness record has been a concern stemming back to his time at Arsenal.
West Ham picked him up on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 but he has gone on to play just 599 minutes in the top flight since due to ankle and groin problems, forcing him to miss 53 games in total.
Wilshere can now join a new club as a free agent and, speaking last month, said he was ready to play ‘anywhere’.
In a statement following his release from the London Stadium, the 28-year-old said: ‘When I joined the club in the summer of 2018 I joined with great hopes and was excited to join the club I supported as a boy.
‘Despite all of my best efforts and intentions, it has not worked out as I’d expected.
‘I have been fully fit for a large period of time at the club, including over the course of the last eight months but unfortunately have not been given the opportunity to play.
‘Although I am frustrated I was not able to fully showcase what I am capable of at West Ham, I remain convinced that I can still contribute at the very top of the game.
‘I am still hungry and ambitious.’
Rangers were thought to be keen on Wilshere but Steven Gerrard’s Scottish Premiership leaders are yet to make an approach.
