Jamie Vardy has given Leicester an injury scare ahead of Sunday’s clash with Aston Villa after complaining of a calf problem in training.

The forward, who has five goals in his opening four matches, was sent for a scan on Friday to establish the extent of the damage and is rated doubtful.

Vardy’s absence would be a huge blow to Leicester, who are looking to bounce back from the 3-0 home defeat by West Ham before the international break, which ended their 100 per cent start to the campaign.

Vardy is one of a number of players who could be missing for Leicester as they try to put the brakes on Villa, who beat Liverpool 7-2 a fortnight ago in a remarkable match at Villa Park.

Defender Caglar Soyuncu faces a significant spell on the sidelines with a thigh injury, while fellow centre-back Jonny Evans is also doubtful for the Villa game after picking up an abdominal problem with Northern Ireland.

Wilfred Ndidi, Ricardo Pereira and Daniel Amartey are long-term absentees while James Maddison has yet to start a league match this term due to hip and calf problems, and Dennis Praet may also be absent due to knee trouble.
