Everton have confirmed midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin will likely miss the rest of the season but has been told he will not require surgery on the knee injury he suffered in training last weekend.
Gbamin sustained medial collateral ligament damage in an accidental clash with left-back Lucas Digne just a week after making his comeback from 19 months out.
He was forced to sit out the 0-0 draw with Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Monday and underwent a scan in London on Tuesday that confirmed he will not need an operation.

Gbamin will be out for around eight weeks though – adding to Everton’s lengthy injury list. They currently have more first team players out injured than any other Premier League side, with 10 receiving treatment.
However, midfielder Fabian Delph is hopeful of stepping up his recovery from a calf injury next week.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are eighth in the Premier League table after their uninspiring draw against Brighton, which saw their winless streak stretch to four games.
They face a crucial clash against fellow European contenders Tottenham on Friday. Jose Mourinho’s men are a point above Everton in seventh, having played one game more.
