Jennifer Saunders transforms into The Joker for There’s Something About Movies

Jennifer Saunders ditched her regular appearance as she transformed into The Joker for Alan Carr’s panel show There’s Something About Movies, which will air next Wednesday.

The comedian, 62, joined fellow captain Michael Sheen as they recreated Joaquin Phoenix’s award-winning portrayal of the DC Comic psychopath for a Halloween special of the series.

Sporting dramatic face paint, the actress looked unrecognisable as she pulled animated expressions for a spooky shoot.

The Absolutely Fabulous star swapped her blonde tresses for tousled green locks and wore clown-inspired make-up to mimic the sinister supervillian.

Jennifer teamed an orange shirt, a green tie and the character’s signature red suit as she fully immersed herself into the role.

Actor Michael, 51, looked equally frightening in a similar outfit to his co-star as they took part in an outdoor photoshoot.

Appearing care-free, the screen star leaned back to puff a cigarette and raised his arms in the air.

The panel programme, which is in its third series, sees Jennifer, Michael and chat show host Alan channel famous movie scenes.

For this week’s challenge, comedian Tom Allen revealed Michael had a mishap as he struggled to wash out the green dye from his hair.

Presenter Tom, 37, told Digital Spy: ‘He and Jennifer recreated the Joker movie and bless him, they did the filming the day before. Michael being very method, said to Jennifer, ”We shouldn’t wear wigs, we should just dye our hair, it will be better”.

‘They both dyed their hair green, and then Jennifer’s washed out straight away, and Michael’s didn’t. He turned up looking like Grotbags. Don’t tell him I said that. It made me laugh, and he did laugh about it.

‘He’s just so cool, when you look at some of the stuff he’s done and the people he knows, and we’re all having a laugh at his green hair, it’s great. He’s just such a nice guy, I guess that’s why he’s carried on working.’

Earlier this month, Jennifer and her close friend Dawn French revealed they have rejected offers to appear on Strictly Come Dancing because it’s ‘terribly undignified for older women.’

The TV stars said should they compete, they would want to take the show ‘seriously’ with Dawn saying she feared bosses would ‘shoot her out of a cannon like Ann Widdecombe’ – who famously competed in 2010.

Speaking on new podcast French & Saunders: T**ting Around, funnywoman Dawn, 62, said: ‘They’ve approached me in a circling way before. The problem is if I did it, I’d want to do it and properly dance.

‘At this age, you’re not taken seriously. Also if you’re from comedy, they want to shoot you out of a cannon like Ann Widdecombe and I don’t want that.

‘I want the nicest dress, the most elegant other dancer and to take it seriously and nobody would want that.’

Jennifer also branded the show ‘cringe’ for its VTs showing the dance pairs getting ready for the shows, and said she believed the pair would be partnered with professional dancer Anton Du Beke rather than ‘any of the nice ones like Aljaz’ (Skorjanec).

She said: ‘I would do it if it wasn’t for the background films. Oh it’s pathetic now. ‘It’s Halloween week! Ooh we’re slightly scared now.’ Oh God.

‘I’m not saying I don’t like watching it but I have to say, being on it would make me cringe.

‘We know we’d be with Anton du Beke. We wouldn’t get Aljaz or any of the nice ones, we would be with Anton.’
