Johanna Griggs reveals her hack for packing a suitcase in three minutes

Australian television presenter Johanna Griggs can pack a suitcase at a moments’ notice, a trick that comes in handy given she takes up to 100 flights a year.

The host of House Rules and former athlete swears by the benefits of an organised packing schedule as it means she’s always prepped to go without any fuss.

Speaking to Escape she revealed her number one hack, one that allowed her to pack in under three minutes, was to have a travel bag ready with all her essentials.

‘Chargers, undies, socks, slips, gym gear – and then just transfer your toiletries and the clothes you need. It allows you to pack in under three minutes,’ she told Escape.

The busy media personality revealed when it comes to business trips, her packing style is ‘hyper organised’, however, she is a little more relaxed when going on holiday with family.

One rule she swears by, regardless of the trip, is that of packing clothing that can be easily layered up.

This way she doesn’t have to contend with bulky items taking up excess space and she can manage any weather condition.

Another way she said she minimised her packing time when travelling for work was to always have a partially packed case nearby.

This ‘on-the-road’ case includes items such as gym gear, running shoes, device chargers, and ‘a big jar of Moccona Indulgence instant coffee’.

While choosing luggage can come down to budget, often spending a little extra means what you’ve bought will last the distance – a principle Johanna stands by.

‘Get your devices, paperwork, headphones and whatever else you need out before you board the plane.’ she told the publication.

She said the benefit of doing this meant that you wouldn’t hold up the queue and once you’d boarded it was easy enough to stash everything in the seat pocket in front.

These included downloading the weather app Rain Parrot, which she said was great for accurate weather predictions, and switching up her pillows at the hotel as she preferred the firmest pillow possible. This was usually found on the couch.

While her tips have been gleaned from years of travel, she’s not been immune to the odd mishap – including having to deal with an instant coffee spill:

‘The biggest packing mistake I made was not putting my coffee in a ziplock bag and ending up with coffee coating everything in my suitcase. Disaster!’
