John Cena teases Super Bowl Mountain Dew commercial and $1M giveaway on Super Sunday

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs decide who’s king of the NFL when they face off during Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida this Sunday, February 7.

But according to John Cena, there will be a game within a game on Super Sunday, when he appears in Mountain Dew’s Super Bowl commercial that includes a contest where a fan can win $1 million.

The professional wrestler-turned-actor laid out the details in a new teaser that dropped on Monday.

The pre-game advert begins with Cena standing behind the trunk of pink car with a Mountain Dew in hand, while counting: ’33, 34, 35.’

‘Hi I’m John Cena, and I know how to count,’ he begins after turning towards the camera dressed in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt.

‘In fact, knowing how to count could change your life on Super Bowl Sunday. Like help you win one million dollars.’

He adds, ‘If you count all the bottles of delicious Mountain Dew Major Melon, our new watermelon flavor, in our commercial,’ before taking a big gulp from his bottle of Dew.

The teaser transitioned to Cena, 43, offering a stare into the camera with the headline: ‘Be ready to count this Super Bowl Sunday.’ 

It ended with the Trainwreck star continuing his count when he shifts his attention back to the trunk of that pink car: ’37, 38, 39.’  

Mountain Dew announced it will give away the $1 million cash prize to whichever viewer can guess how many bottles are shown during the commercial by using the hashtag #MTNDEWMAJORMELON on Twitter.

Fans are being encouraged to watch the commercial closely, and potentially multiple times, to have a better chance to be the first person to correctly count the number of Mtn Dew Major Melon bottles.

The commercial will air during the first half of the game this Sunday and will feature ‘hundreds, thousands, maybe even millions of Mtn Dew Major Melon bottles,’ according to the brand, as reported by People

Super Bowl LV kicks off on CBS at 3:30pm PT/6:30pm ET, which means Cena’s advert should air before 5pm PT/8pm ET, the estimated arrival of halftime.  

Cena is currently shooting the HBO Max series Peacemaker in Canada, which is based on the DC Comics character of the same name.
