John Terry takes a big step towards managerial job after completing his UEFA Pro Licence

John Terry has completed his UEFA Pro Licence as the Chelsea legend eyes a top managerial job in the future. 

Terry, who is currently Dean Smith‘s assistant coach at Aston Villa, has worked in the dugout at Villa Park since retiring from playing in 2018. 

But the 40-year-old Chelsea legend has taken another step in his aspiration to landing a job as a No 1 after completing the final qualification in the coaching ladder and struggled to hide his joy as he posted an Instagram with his certificate. 

Alongside the photo, Terry said: ‘I’m delighted to have completed my UEFA Pro Licence with the FA.

‘I have loved and enjoyed the journey where I have met and learnt from some great people on the course. 

‘A huge thank you to all the FA Staff who have been superb in supporting us all the way through. Dream big JT.’ 

Terry was one of 24 coaches to pass the ‘FA Level 5 UEFA Pro Licence’ qualification in the ‘Class of 2021’, alongside former players such as ex-Manchester United man Quinton Fortune, former Stoke midfielder Rory Delap and ex-England Women’s star Casey Stoney, who most recently managed the Manchester United Women’s team. 

Terry has spoken in the past of his ‘dream’ being to manage Chelsea, where he made 717 appearances and won 18 trophies during 19 successful years.

‘My ambition is very clear – there’s an end goal for me and that’s managing Chelsea Football Club,’ the ex-Blues and England captain said.  

‘My team will be winning — hopefully — very honest, very organised, very well drilled, very well prepared and with a back four.’

Terry has enjoyed success with Smith at Villa Park, overseeing promotion to the Premier League and two successful seasons in the top-flight.  

But down the line, the 40-year-old could be looking to follow in the footsteps of former England team-mates Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney, who have all landed top roles in the dugout. 

Lampard started at Derby before landing the top job at Stamford Bridge for 18 months before his sacking in January. 

Gerrard has just won the Scottish Premiership in his third season with Rangers while Rooney kept Derby in the Championship on the final day last season after taking over in January.
