Jose Mourinho is keeping his feet firmly on the ground despite Tottenham‘s bright start to the season with the manager claiming a couple of victories don’t put him ‘on the moon’.

Spurs could finish the weekend top of the league if they beat West Brom on Sunday and Liverpool fail to beat Manchester City and they are also joint top of their Europa League group.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are also in fine form with the strikers having combined for nine goals this season.

But Mourinho knows better than to get carried away and insisted his side can still improve. 

When asked whether Tottenham were on their way to ending their long wait for a trophy, Mourinho said: ‘No no no. I have years of football experience and it is not a couple of victories that put me on the moon and it is not a couple of defeats that send me down to hell.

‘It’s all about balance, taking it match by match, looking for improvement and seeing what happens.’

The Spurs boss also added he was actually disappointed his team hadn’t picked up more points this season. 

‘I expected a couple of more points in the Premier League.  

‘We lost points we shouldn’t have and also in the Europa League we have six points now when I expected to have nine.’

Tottenham face a West Brom said who are still looking for their first victory of the season after being promoted to the Premier League last season.

The Baggies have picked up three draws, including a 3-3 thriller with Chelsea after they let a 3-0 lead slip in the second half.
