The Pearl Harbour star, 42, and actress, 32, have been in a relationship for nine years and are fiercely protective of their private life, and the couple have not disclosed their children’s names publicly.

In a rare conversation about his family life, Josh told MR PORTER’s digital magazine on Thursday that he prioritised his loved ones over his acting career as he said being a father is the proudest moment of his life.

Congratulations! Josh Hartnett confirmed the arrival of his third child with partner Tamsin Egerton on Thursday as he claimed being a father is his ‘most proud’ moment in new interview

Reflecting on fatherhood, Josh told the publication: ‘The thing I am most proud of is that I’m a father of three and I have a good relationship with my partner and a great family life and I’m still able to do good work and, as I’ve got older, the characters have become more interesting.’

Josh and Tamsin welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 2015 and their second child in 2017, it is unclear when they welcomed their third.

He also reflected on how life has been in lockdown for him and his family, as he admitted that while it was ‘a lot of work’ they were doing the ‘best we can.’

The actor explained: ‘We’ve been trying to keep them occupied as best we can, but it’s a lot of work and it takes both of us all day and by the end of it all we want to do is reach for a bottle of wine and go to sleep.’

Josh went on to detail his desire to avoid being drawn into the glitzy Hollywood lifestyle as the humble star felt it was more important to ‘have a life’ than chase fame.

He said: ‘A lot of people get caught in that trap, but I feel very strongly about friends I’ve known for a long time and my family.

‘I wanted to make sure I wasn’t losing those relationships. Those people make me who I am. I put those concerns ahead of chasing a Hollywood dream.’

He went on: ‘I decided to have a life. To put that first. That was always my goal. I didn’t want to be that person, and I’m never going to be that person.’

Josh and Tamsin are thought to have met on the set of The Lovers in 2010 but reportedly didn’t become an item item until 2012’s Singularity, where they starred opposite each other again.

The couple welcomed their first child in 2015, but her name remains unknown, and the pair continued to remain tight-lipped for the duration of their second and third pregnancies.

In 2016, Josh spoke about how much he loves being a parent, and gushed having a child had ‘put everything into perspective’.

Family first: Explaining his reasoning, Josh added: 'I feel very strongly about friends I've known for a long time and my family. 'I wanted to make sure I wasn't losing those relationships'

Speaking on the Live! With Kelly and Michael show, he explained: She is the apple of my eye. She’s perfect in every way… It puts things in a totally new perspective, of course. I mean, your ego melts away when you have a new kid.

‘I mean, your ego melts away when you have a new kid. Your heart kind of leaves your body and you give it permission to walk around with someone else for a while.

‘It’s really terrifying but it’s beautiful. I love it more than anything. I wish I would have started it earlier. But I’m so glad that she is the one I’m raising.’
