Jurgen Klopp STILL hasn’t discovered how long Virgil van Dijk will be out for

‘We don’t even want to know to be honest’: Jurgen Klopp STILL hasn’t discovered how long Virgil van Dijk will be out for with his ACL injury but says the Liverpool star is ‘as good as can be’ as he awaits surgery on the injury

  • Virgil van Dijk is expected to miss the rest of the season with serious knee injury
  • He was on the end of a reckless challenge from Jordan Pickford last weekend
  • Jurgen Klopp says there is still no timeframe for when Liverpool star will return

Jurgen Klopp has yet to discover how long he can expect to be without Virgil van Dijk for as the crocked Liverpool star waits to have surgery.

Liverpool’s talismanic centre-back suffered a potentially season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee as the result of a reckless challenge from Jordan Pickford last weekend.

But Klopp offered no timeframe for when Liverpool fans can expect to see their Dutchman back in action in his press-conference ahead of the visit of Sheffield United on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp said on Friday he has still not discovered when Virgil van Dijk will be back

He said: ‘I can understand people are interested in Virgil. He is OK, it doesn’t make sense we give a schedule every day. Surgery will happen at the appropriate time.

‘We don’t even want to know to be honest. Recovery will take time that is clear. All people are different. It won’t make sense to say [when he’s back]. Everyone copes differently so there is no need for it.’

Though van Dijk is out for the visit of Sheffield United, Klopp would not rule out a return for No 1 Alisson. The Brazilian goalkeeper has been missing since suffering a shoulder injury ahead of the trip to Aston Villa.

But he is believed to be making good progress and could make an earlier than expected return before the end of the month.

Klopp continued: ‘So, let me say it like this with the others, apart from Ox and Virg, obviously, and maybe Kostas, who gets closer and closer but is not at all in contention for this game or the next one.

‘All the others, we have to see day by day pretty much. It’s a lot of conversations with the medical department – for who it makes sense, for who it is too early and all these kinds of things.

‘That’s the time we are in with the games we have; if somebody is injured for two weeks that could mean five games and it is still not a serious injury.

‘So, I don’t know in this moment who will be available. My last information was that the boys who played the other night, they are all fine.

‘They are OK and the rest, we will see.’
