A life-size Sir David Attenborough made out of cake is among dozens of jaw dropping creations on display at an annual baking exhibition.

Bakers have created incredible edible displays for this year’s Cake International event at the NEC in Birmingham, where Sir David has been celebrated in a special event called Into the Wild.

Elsewhere in the weekend-long exhibition, a cake making competition winner could be awarded up to £2,500 if their creation is good enough to clinch the Best In Show prize.

Other events include bakery masterclasses, decorating workshops, and the chance to meet cake artists famed within the industry.

Artist Stephanie Would, 37, will be showcasing her 4.5ft-high Sir David cake. She and her team of four helpers dedicated the life-sized cake to the naturalist, who celebrated his 95th birthday in May.

The bakers used 300 eggs, 20kg of flour, 20kg of sugar, 20kg of butter, one pint of milk, 500g of vanilla and 20kg of ganache to create the cake which was filled with 7kg of buttercream.

Alongside the cake, Stephanie also made small replica cakes of a giraffe, tiger, hippo and an alligator. The mother-of-three, from Bradford, said: ‘David Attenborough is a legend in the animal kingdom as well as our own.’
