Kate Cebrano flees Melbourne for Sydney because there is ‘no work for musicians’

She might be one of Australia’s most well known singers. 

But, just like many Aussies around the country, Kate Ceberano has struggled to find work during the COVID-19 lockdowns in Melbourne. 

On Thursday, the 53-year-old explained to the Courier Mail that she fled the Victorian capital for Sydney so that she can perform live. 

‘I was so reluctant to leave Melbourne, it’s my home. But there’s no work for musicians on the horizon in Melbourne,’ Kate told the publication. 

‘Some parts of Australia really don’t understand what it’s like to be in Melbourne at the moment. Right now I’ll go where the work is because that’s what I need to do to survive.’ 

Kate, has just finished her two weeks of hotel quarantine and has already lined up concerts around the state. 

Despite losing much of her live work this year, Kate has managed to record a new album, Sweet Inspiration, which will be released in February.

On Friday, she released a single from the album titled, Hold On.

‘In a time where there is so much uncertainty, we are all going to need so much more of things that money can’t buy, like comfort, support, love and peace of mind….music is the only thing that brings this to me time and time again,’ she said of the song in a statement. 

In order to supplement her income in the meantime, Kate has been painting guitar cases and selling them. 

‘I know my fans would rather hear me sing or buy an album, but them buying my paintings has helped keep food on the table,’ she added to the Courier Mail. 

She also used the money to help fund her ‘massively expensive’ hotel quarantine in NSW.
