Katy Perry dodged interview questions about the possibility of naming daughter Daisy months ago

Katy Perry not only revealed Wednesday that she gave birth to her first child, a daughter, but that she and fiance Orlando Bloom, 43, chose to name the newborn Daisy Dove.

But throughout the span of her pregnancy, the singer, 35, expertly dodged interview questions that gauged the possibility of her assigning the name ‘Daisy’ to her then-unborn daughter.

During an appearance on Entertainment Tonight Canada in early August, the hosts asked Perry directly if she would consider naming her daughter after her hit single Daisies.

They also asked if the name ‘Harley’ was in the mix, due to Katy naming one of the songs on her forthcoming album Smile, Harleys In Hawaii.

‘Well, these are really great contributions. I’ve never thought of Harley ever. Harley is a great name. Harley Bloom? Hold on, excuse me, I’m writing it down,’ replied Katy, who could be seen pulling her cellphone into frame.

But, even with the excitement over potential baby names clearly at play, the Teenage Dream songstress kept mum and, instead, assured the show’s hosts that her and Orlando ‘had a little list’ put together of their favorite girl names.

And during a remote appearance in July, Heart Breakfast host Amanda Holden told Katy that she ‘liked’ the name ‘Daisy Bloom or Daisy Perry-Bloom.’

But, Katy completely avoided the ‘Daisy’ portion of Holden’s suggestion and, instead focused on the potential usage of ‘Perry-Bloom’ in her daughter’s full name.

‘Well, Perry is my mother’s maiden name so it’s kind of a bit removed already,’ explained Katy, who then rambled on about being fond of her fiance’s last name.

‘You know when you meet someone … and you go into fantasy and you try on the last name. Girl, you know you do. I mean, I’m really grateful for this last name. So, I’ll take it,’ she concluded.

Though it is unclear whether or not Katy and Orlando had the name ‘Daisy’ at the very top of their list, the Grammy nominee told Karson & Kennedy in June that meeting her daughter for the first time will contribute to the overall decision.

‘We have yet to decide specifically on her name because, I think, we’ve got options and she’ll tell us,’ she began.

‘I’ll look at her and I’ll go, “Oh yeah yeah, you are her. You are that.”‘

Katy may have just given birth, but now she’s already gearing up for another new arrival – the release of her sixth studio album Smile, which drops Friday.

The singer broke her Twitter silence on Thursday to promote the new release.

‘Delivering a baby and a record in the same week, dont f**k with mama,’ she wrote, adding hashtags to promote both latest single What Makes A Woman, and her record Smile.

Katy is known for acerbic wit on the social media site, so it was little surprise for her fans to see her jump straight back on Twitter following the birth of her first child.

She also announced the release of her new animated video for song Harley’s In Hawaii, proving that she doesn’t plan to be taking things easy now she’s a mother.

The Smile singer received countless well wishes from her friends, including Miranda Kerr – previously married to Orlando – who wrote a sweet message on Instagram saying: ‘I’m so happy for you guys. Can’t wait to meet her.’

Katy and Orlando shared a sweet black and white photo of them holding onto their newborn’s tiny hand yesterday, in a post that they shared via the charity Unicef.

In homage to her baby girl, the Teenage Dream hitmaker had a white daisy visible on her thumb nail as she held Daisy’s hand.

In their statement to UNICEF, the couple stated that although they are joyously celebrating the birth of their daughter, ‘[they] know [they are] the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as [theirs] was.’

‘Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes.

‘Since COVID-19, many more newborn lives are at risk because of a greater lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases.

They added that ‘as parents to a newborn, this breaks [their] hearts, as [they] empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.’

‘As UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, we know UNICEF is there, on the ground, doing whatever it takes to make sure every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare.

‘In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB’s arrival.

‘By supporting UNICEF, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your ❤️ can bloom with generosity,’ concluded the couple.
