WHAT IS BIPOLAR?

Bipolar disorder is a brain disorder which causes unusual and often sudden changes in mood and energy levels.

Moods of those with bipolar disorder range from periods of extreme elation and energy (known as a manic episode) to periods of extreme somberness and lack of energy (known as a depressive episode).

HOW IS IT DIAGNOSED?

According to the International Bipolar Foundation, sufferers are diagnosed with rapid cycling if they have four or more manic, hypomanic, or depressive episodes in any 12-month period.

This severe form of the condition occurs in around 10 to 20 percent of all people with bipolar disorder.

WHAT CAUSES IT?

Currently it is unknown what is the cause of bipolar disorder, which affects around 5.7 million US adults aged 18 or older.

Scientists say genetics could play a role or that those with a a family history of bipolar disorder are more likely to have it.

‘Our sources say his family and those close to him are worried, but they believe things will stabilize as they have in the past.

‘The problem here, is that Kanye’s proclamations are causing problems.’

MailOnline has contacted a spokesperson for Kanye West for comment.

Another insider said that West was doing well before this episode.

‘Kanye has been doing well for a long time. In the past, he has suffered both manic and depressive episodes related to his bipolar disorder. Right now, he is struggling again,’ a source told People.

Kim is said to be ‘worried’ about the rapper, whose behaviour is putting an immense amount of stress on her.

‘Kim is concerned, as well as her whole family. It’s super stressful for Kim, because Kanye’s behaviour is very unpredictable. She is worried,’ the source went on.

‘The episodes usually last for a few weeks and then things go back to normal. Kim hopes it will be the same this time.’

Kanye has been married to Kim since 2014, and the couple have four children, North, seven, Saint, four, Chicago, two, and Psalm, 14 months.

The musician’s Forbes interview saw him drop his support for Trump, reveal his political party is called The Birthday Party and discuss anti-vaccination views.’

In 2018, Kanye revealed he was not taking medication for bipolar because it ‘stifles his creativity,’ a year after his diagnosis.

The performer told David Letterman that he feels discriminated against because of his mental health issues.

Kanye said: ‘I can just tell you what I’m feeling at the time. I feel a heightened connection with the universe when I’m ramping up.

‘It’s a health issue, this is a sprained brain, like a sprained ankle. When someone has a sprained ankle, you’re not going to push on him more. With us, once our brain gets to a point of spraining, people do everything to make it worse,

‘They do everything possible. They got us to that point and they do everything to make it worse.’

Kanye can sometimes experience psychosis during periods of severe mania, in which he feels hyper-paranoia and believes everyone is out to get him.
