Speaking to Sky News after her win, she said: [Hettie] started heckling me during my acceptance speech, but she’s two weeks old, so I couldn’t really leave her at home’.

Numerous social media users have since taken to Twitter to praise the ‘brilliant’ new mother, who is the first minister to be granted maternity leave.

‘Trying to look for something positive on what has been a very bleak night’, said one user. ‘Great to see Stella Creasy being interviewed with her two-week-old baby, having been re-elected as an MP’.

Another added: ‘Stella Creasy’s baby is the most wholesome thing I’m going to see this evening’.

Earlier this year, Creasy revealed she was expecting her first child with her partner Dan Fox after previously suffering two miscarriages.

She has since become the first member of parliament to be granted maternity leave, with ‘locum’ minister providing cover in her absence.

She advertised for the £50,000 pro-rata post when she was 30 weeks pregnant with her first child in October. The ‘locum’ was set to cover her absence for seven months, starting in November.
