Liverpool ‘may swoop for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho this summer if Mohamed Salah departs… with Manchester United target’s displays in Germany ‘having not gone unnoticed’ by Jurgen Klopp’

  • Liverpool could sign Jadon Sancho is Mohamed Salah leaves this summer
  • Jurgen Klopp has been impressed by the Borussia Dortmund winger
  • Salah has previously refused to rule out leaving Anfield in the future
  • Sancho was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United last summer

Jurgen Klopp could attempt to sign Jadon Sancho if Mohamed Salah leaves Liverpool this summer.

That’s according to German outlet Bild, via Sport Witness, who claim the performances of Borussia Dortmund winger have ‘not gone unnoticed’ by the Reds boss.

Klopp may be in the market for a forward if he loses Salah at the end of the season. The Egyptian has repeatedly refused to rule out leaving Anfield for Spain in the near future.

In December, he admitted he could play for Barcelona or Real Madrid later in his career and he made similar comments in an interview in March, where he was asked whether he would be keen to experience Spanish football.

He told Marca: ‘I hope to be able to play for many more years.

‘Why not? No one knows what’s going to happen in the future. So… maybe one day, yes. It’s not up to me.’

When asked about his relationship with Klopp, Salah added: ‘It’s a normal relationship between two professionals. That’s how I’d describe it.’

While Liverpool have suffered a disappointing campaign, Salah has once again been in good form.

The winger has 29 goals in 46 games across all competitions and is just one strike behind Premier League top scorer Harry Kane.

If Salah were to depart Merseyside, Bild believe Klopp could turn to Sancho as a replacement.

The winger was wanted by Manchester United last summer but refused to pay Dormtund’s asking price of over £100million.

The England international has made a name for himself in Germany since leaving Manchester City’s academy in 2017.

The 21-year-old has managed 45 goals and 56 assists across the last three seasons.

Both Salah and Sancho are under contract until 2023. Liverpool announced on Tuesday that they are are £88m worse off than last year with a £46m pre-tax loss following a year of matches behind closed doors. It is understood the impact of the pandemic will cost the club £120m until fans are allowed back into Anfield.

Therefore, any move for Sancho would likely need a big-money sale of one of their current stars.
