Coutinho signed for the Catalan’s in 2018 in a deal worth up to £140m, but has not featured for the club since being forced off against Eibar on December 29.

One of the add-on fees stipulated in the contract requires Barcelona to pay Liverpool £17m if Coutinho makes 100 appearances for the LaLiga side.

Coutinho is just 10 games away from reaching the milestone, however, a report from Marca says the Brazilian has suffered a succession of setbacks in his recovery and that he will miss the remainder of the season.

The LaLiga giants made the decision to send Coutinho for surgery on April 5th and had expected the midfielder to return in three months time.

However, the Spanish outlet claims Coutinho has since been ruled out of Barcelona’s remaining fixtures for the 2020-2021 season.
