Liverpool will only travel 1,900 miles for Champions League Group Games

Liverpool only have to travel 1,900 miles for their Champions League group stage trips while Chelsea and Man City will fly over 1,000 miles MORE for their away matches – which includes a daunting EIGHT-HOUR flight to Krasdonar for Lampard’s men

  • Liverpool will travel the least out of English sides in Champions League Groups
  • Jurgen Klopp’s men will only fly 1,900 miles for their three Group Stage trips
  • Manchester City have further to travel than any other Premier League club
  • But Chelsea face longest journey of them all with a 1,831-mile trip to Krasdonar

Liverpool struck gold in their Champions League draw as they will only have to travel 1,900 miles for their away trips – far fewer than any other Premier League team with Chelsea and Manchester City facing the longest journeys across Europe.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will fancy their chances of sailing through the group stage too after being handed a favourable draw of Ajax, Midtjylland and last season’s quarter-finalists Atalanta.

In a season where schedules are jam-packed due to the coronavirus, the short jaunts they’ll need to make across Europe will bring them and their players huge comfort.

The furthest trip Liverpool will have to embark on will be just over 1,000 miles when they travel to play Atalanta – and even that translates to under four hours on a plane.

Their other trips to Amsterdam and Midtjylland – which are only 335 miles and 526 miles – pale in comparison to some of the treks Chelsea and Manchester City will have to take.

Frank Lampard’s men face the worst of them all with a daunting eight-hour and 1,831-mile trip to Krasdonar in Russia – which is almost as far as Liverpool’s three away matches combined.

Chelsea will also have a 1,015-mile journey to Seville to make and a short flight to Rennes to complete all of their Group Stage fixtures.

Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City team will travel further than any other English side in the competition with games at Olympiakos, Porto and Marseille adding up to 3,160 miles.

The furthest City will have to travel for one game is 1,630 miles to take on Olympiakos at the Karaiskakis Stadium – a ground Premier League clubs are familiar with as Tottenham and Wolves both played there in Europe last season.

Their rivals United were arguably given the toughest draw of all, being pitted in Group H against last-season’s runners-up Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir.

The silver lining for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his men is that they will only have one long-haul journey to make in the Group Stage.

Istanbul is 1,677 miles away from Manchester and is the second longest distance to travel for any English side in the competition – only eclipsed by Chelsea’s pilgrimage to Krasdonar.

United, however, won’t be phased by much shorter flights to Paris and Leipzig for their other European games on the road – and have fond memories in the French Capital having staged a remarkable comeback there last year.

The Group Stage matches will commence on October 20 and finish on December 9 but teams are not yet aware of when their games will be played.

UEFA will confirm the fixture list for every team in the Champions League Group Stages on Friday evening.
