Louis Tomlinson puts on a brave face as he meets fans after THAT BBC Breakfast interview

Louis Tomlinson soldiered on with his commitments on Monday afternoon following his uncomfortable appearance on BBC Breakfast – after which he vowed never to appear on the show ever again.

The former-One Direction star, 28, was filmed by a fan at a meet-and-greet signing, which was scheduled to take place on his way back to Doncaster, where he was due to see his family.

Despite feeling rattled by the BBC Breakfast appearance – which saw show hosts Dan Walker and Louise Minchin press him about his grief over the tragic loss of his mother, who died two years ago, his sister, who died last year, and his boy band past – Louis was sure to honour his promise to meet his fans.

He is currently promoting his new album Walls and was seen chatting animatedly to one fan who wanted to show him the tattoo she had on her wrist of his autograph.

The fan explained that they had met at a previous event and he had signed her wrist – which she then had permanently inked on.

Louis seemed in good spirits, regardless of his morning at the BBC, after which he had taken to Twitter and posted to his 33.5 million followers: ‘Defo wont be going on there again Haha! Love to all my fans for always having my back.’

He followed this with a tweet about staying positive, clearly taking his own advice and heading to the meet-and-greet. 

Despite the interview getting off to a pleasant start, Louis became noticeably uncomfortable when Dan asked about how he approaches songwriting with regards to ‘the loss of your mother and your sister and other things?’

Louis’ mother Johannah died of leukaemia in December 2016. His sister Félicité, 18, died last March after an accidental overdose. Louis wrote the track Two Of Us about Johannah, which appears on the new album – his first solo record since breaking from One Direction.

Following the appearance, Louis took to Twitter 

BBC Breakfast presenter Dan replied: ‘Sorry you feel like that. It was nice to speak to you on #BBCBreakfast this morning. Can I ask what you are upset about?’ 

To which Louis responded: ‘I was upset that you continued to ask me about my grief. It goes without saying how hard it is to lose both people so close to me. The least I ask is that you respect my decision of not wanting to be asked in interviews about something so painful.

‘I’m lucky enough to have a creative outlet for me to talk about grief this doesn’t however give you the right to talk about it for gossip purposes.’

He then tweeted: ‘Anyway f**k the negativity now. It’s been a siiiiick week.’

Dan continued to press the matter on Twitter, however, posting: ‘Hi Louis. We were asking you about the song on your new album about your mum. We know it’s painful which is why we didn’t dwell on it. No intention to upset you or be ‘gossipy’ about it at all. That’s not our style on #BBCBreakfast’

A BBC spokesperson defended the interview, telling MailOnline on Monday afternoon: ‘We wanted to cover all aspects of Louis’ life that have influenced his new album and feel the questioning was fair.’ 

The interview began with questions about Louis’ past in One Direction, which he answered happily. 

‘It was incredible. It was such a drastic life change for us all… it’s interesting, and what was amazing for us is we had each other,’ he said. ‘I’ve often looked across to other solo artists and thought how difficult it must be to come into fame on your own, whereas we always had each other, which helped us enjoy the whole ride really.’

But tension began to build when Dan asked: ‘Do you feel that at some stage that “oh, I’ve put too much of yourself in there”, or is that part of helping you in writing that way, about the loss of your mother and your sister and other things?’

Louis said: ‘I think because of where I started my career on the X Factor and you know, there’s always been a camera on me, and I’ve always given a lot of myself, it’s kind of all I’ve known in my career really.

‘I almost use that to my advantage and I’m brave enough to talk about these things.’

The mention of these personal tragedies set the tone for the rest of the chat, with the hosts of the weekday morning show asking whether his One Direction co-stars had been in touch about the album. 

‘The lads have texted me saying “well done” and that, which is proper nice.’

Louise added: ‘A lot of them are on their second albums, aren’t they?’

Prompting Louis to reply: ‘Yeah, yeah… What you saying, I’ve got some catching up to do?’

This then prompted Louise to question Louis about Zayn, to which he replied: ‘God, you’re proper going in here today.’

Dan insisted that fans would want to know if there was indeed any tension between the men, to which Louis answered: ‘Yeah they will, but people pick up on every little thing I say… I’m just not ready to have that conversation yet, that’s fair enough.’

The final question was about the possibility of a One Direction reunion, prompting Louis to conclude the chat by saying: ‘You’ve ticked them all off – trauma, Zayn and we’re finally on this one!

‘I’ll give you the answer I give everyone. It’s inevitable. I don’t know when. We’d be stupid not to.’

Louis’ legion of fans were quick to jump to his defence on Twitter, flocking to Dan’s page and posting abuse, branding him ‘gross’, disrespectful’ and ‘rude’.

Dan had posted a separate tweet saying: ‘We asked him loads of questions about his new album but also in the context of his past success…’

This only enraged staunch fans further, who branded him a ‘liar’ – noting that the direct questions asked about the album were minimal.

Louis has willingly spoken about his personal tragedies in the past.

Speaking about the song Two Of Us, he spoke to Australian radio show The Kyle and Jackie O Show last year.

‘You’ve experienced a lot of loss recently in your life,’ said radio host Kyle Sandilands.

Louis replied: ‘Yeah, obviously it’s not been easy, but I felt like it was time to write this song. I mean a lot of people, I think, bottle up these emotions and I think I’m probably one of those people as well.’

‘And I think it was important to kind of put this in a song in the hope that not only I feel better from saying those words, but hopefully people all relate to it in their own way and come to their own conclusions and maybe they’ll feel a bit better.’ 

Louis’ lyrics, which directly address his late mother, include: ‘You’ll never know much I miss you / The day that they took you, I wish it was me instead’.   

The songwriter has previously said in interviews that Two Of Us had been a ‘tough one’ to play to his sisters, including Félicité – who was found dead in her London apartment just days after the single was released.

The social media influencer had reportedly turned into a diet and exercise-driven introvert and shut out her friends following her mother’s death.

Louis’ mother Johannah died after a battle with leukaemia at the age of 43 on December 7 2016.

She had seven children including Louis and Félicité. She was also mother to Lottie, twins Daisy and Phoebe, and twins Ernest and Doris, aged just two when she passed away.

She was also grandmother to Louis’ son Freddie, now four.

Day after her death, Louis performed at the X Factor final as a tribute to his late mother. He performed his debut single Just Hold On – a dance floor track with DJ Steve Aoki.

The statement released to MailOnline following Johannah’s death read: ‘It is with immeasurable sadness that Johannah Deakin’s family said goodbye to Johannah in the early hours of Wednesday 7th December 2016. Earlier this year Johannah was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukaemia that required immediate and continuous treatment. We respectfully request that the family are given time and space to grieve in private.’

Louis’ 18-year-old sister then died, accidentally, from an overdose of cocaine, an anxiety drug and painkillers, two years later.

Félicité was found collapsed and lifeless at her fourth-floor studio apartment in Earls Court, west London, in March.

Coroner Dr Shirley Radcliffe said at an inquest afterwards: ‘It was a perfect storm, the OxyCodone, the alpraxolam [Xanax] and cocaine. I find no evidence this was a deliberate act to end her life.’

After hearing she had turned to drugs following the tragic death of her mother, the coroner recorded a misadventure verdict.

A tribute by her and Louis’ father Mark Tomlinson was read out at Westminster Coroner’s Court.

He said she ‘was a much loved daughter and sister’ and had from an early age ‘established herself as mischievous and wonderful with children.’

He added: ‘She had huge hopes and aspirations for her future, a lot of which were beginning to come to fruition at her untimely passing. She is missed by all who knew and loved her.’ 

At the time of Félicité’s death, friends of Louis, 27, said he was left ‘devastated and ­distraught’.  

A family source said at the time: ‘Felicite was an absolutely adored young woman who was loved by Louis and her whole family. She was a loveable, caring, bright, passionate, popular and beautiful young lady.’

Shortly after her death, her sister Phoebe posted online: ‘Words don’t even begin to describe how shocked and broken hearted we all are. You were my best friend, sister, motivator and person that could make me laugh until I cried.’

Another sister, Daisy, added: ‘It was only a few weeks ago that we were sat on the sofa bed at 3am drinking tea, eating French fries and chatting about the future. You told me about all your plans. We were excited.

‘I pushed you away when you tried cuddling me, I thought I would have so many more chances to do that. I would cuddle you a million times over if you were still here, with me. Protecting me from this cruel world.’
