Manchester United ‘believe they have dodged a bullet’ by not signing Jadon Sancho last summer and ‘are reconsidering their pursuit’ of the England star.

Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked to add some X-factor to his team.

But his form has slumped this season and, according to the Sunday Mirror, the United hierarchy are thinking twice about whether to pursue him again this summer.

Manchester United have reportedly cooled their interest in Borussia Dortmund star Sancho

Solskjaer’s men are performing pretty well even without Sancho and are joint-top of the Premier League table with Liverpool.

While their interest in Sancho, 20, has reportedly now cooled, they remain interested in his Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland.

Norwegian boss Solskjaer knows Haaland and his family and United made an effort to sign him from Red Bull Salzburg before he joined Dortmund.

The 20-year-old striker has since scored 33 goals in 32 appearances for Dortmund, underlining the star quality that has also attracted the attention of Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

But the Mirror report that Solskjaer remains keen on Haaland and United could make their move during the summer window.

United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward refused to meet Dortmund’s £108million asking price for Haaland with finances strained amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

This decision was criticised at the time but Sancho has failed to scale the same heights for Dortmund this season as last.

They sit sixth in the Bundesliga table with Lucien Favre sacked as manager in mid-December. Sancho has yet to score a Bundesliga goal this season, though he has netted in the Champions League and German Cup.
