Marcos Alonso scored a stoppage-time winner to earn Chelsea a priceless 2-1 win over Manchester City to boost their top-four hopes – and deny Pep Guardiola’s side the chance to win the Premier League title.

City needed a win to seal the English top-flight prize and looked on course to do that when Raheem Sterling swept home after Andreas Christensen’s error, while Sergio Aguero missed a penalty in embarrassing fashion just before the half-time whistle.

But Thomas Tuchel’s side remained a threat in the second-half, particularly down the right-hand side. FA Cup semi-final matchwinner Hakim Ziyech slammed home from inside the box to haunt Guardiola’s City again before Alonso scooped home Timo Werner’s late cross to break City hearts.
