Manchester United ‘are lining up a fresh contract offer for Luke Shaw in the coming months’

Manchester United ‘are lining up a fresh contract offer for Luke Shaw in the coming months’ to reward the left-back for his stellar season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer… with Red Devils boss considering the defender ‘a key man’ in his Old Trafford setup

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to reward Luke Shaw for his dramatic turnaround in form with a new contract offer.

Shaw is currently starring at left-back with the England team, after producing an excellent display in Saturday night’s 4-0 Euro 2020 quarter-final victory over Ukraine.

But his star performances for Gareth Southgate‘s side come off the back of an impressive 18 months for United, where under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he has won back his place at Old Trafford and emerge as a key player after struggling to adapt under previous manager Jose Mourinho.

United are not under significant pressure to reward Shaw with a new deal given he still has two years to run on his existing contract, with a further optional year that the club can trigger.

But according to reporter Fabrizio Romano, the left-back could be offered a new deal in the next few months as he is seen as a key part of a project to get Manchester United challenging for the Premier League title which they have now gone eight years without winning.

Shaw featured 47 times at left-back under Solskjaer last term in all competitions providing six assists and scoring once.

The 25-year-old has won rave reviews for his performances with England this summer and was highly influential in the victory against Ukraine at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Shaw set up England’s second goal where United team-mate Harry Maguire headed home at the start of the second half before then delivering a cross mere minutes later for Harry Kane to also divert in to put England 3-0 up and out of sight in the quarter-final.

Former England striker Alan Shearer believes having a manager that is now getting the best out of Shaw at club level, which has now been transformed to the international stage, has helped him come back into form.

Shaw was only called back into the England squad earlier this year following just two appearances in the previous six years.

‘It’s about people believing in you and having the confidence in you, Shearer told the BBC. ‘If you have one bad game, it’s not the be all and end all, the manager still trusts me. He has that now both with club and country.’
