Manchester United have hired two new members of staff to their scouting department who will be in charge of unearthing talent in ‘the London area’.

The Red Devils are in the middle of a huge restructuring of their youth academy with a focus on homegrown talent, despite the recent exit of Nicky Butt as the head of first-team development.

The two new scouts will focus their work and research in and around London as the club looks to find the next bright talent.

Notes from a recent fans’ forum have come to light and show football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher discussed the club’s scouting department.

They read: ‘The northwest area remains important to ensure we convince the next Marcus (Rashford), Jesse (Lingard) or Mason (Greenwood) to play for United.

‘The scouting network across the rest of the UK have also been strengthened.

‘Recently, two new scouts have came on board to focus on the London area.

‘The club’s tradition of looking at bringing in the best 17/18 year olds from across the world will also continue.’

David Harrison, who is currently United’s head of youth recruitment, has played a lead role in the expected appointments of Ajewole and Jarrett.
