  • Man United are preparing to offer Bruno Fernandes a new £200k-per-week deal
  • The new contract would double his current earnings of £100,000-per-week
  • He will also have the option to extend his deal for a further year at Old Trafford
  • Fernandes currently earns the same as Jesse Lingard and Dean Henderson

Manchester United are preparing to offer Bruno Fernandes a new £200,000-per-week contract, doubling the midfielder’s current wages.

According to the Mirror, United are going to reward the Portuguese star for his efforts on the pitch just under a year after he joined the club in a £47million transfer from Sporting Lisbon in January.

Fernandes made an instant impact at Old Trafford and has recorded 22 goals and 14 assists from 37 matches under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 26-year-old is just eleven months into a four-and-a-half year deal with the Red Devils and this new agreement will allow him to extend his deal for a further 12 months.

United view Fernandes as a key element for their squad moving forward and want to keep him happy despite inconsistency on the pitch in both the Premier League and Champions League.

He currently earns £100,000-per-week – a sum that is much lower than some of the club’s other players and not reflective of his importance to the side.

Goalkeeper David De Gea earns over three times more than Fernandes on a £350,000-per-week deal and Paul Pogba earns £300,000-per-week.

After the lockdown disrupted last season’s Premier League campaign, Fernandes returned to finish the season in style and was awarded the fan’s player of the year award despite only playing half a season.

He has also won two Premier League Player of the Month awards for February and June 2020, further rubber stamping his positive impact at the club.

However, he has his eyes set on team silverware – with United having gone seven years without winning a Premier League title.

Fernandes has been leading by example this season with seven goals and three assists from nine matches in the Premier League and is an influential figure in the dressing room.

He has also continued his fine form onto the European stage, with three goals and an assist in the Champions League group stage.
