Conor McGregor did a better job boxing against Floyd Mayweather than Manny Pacquiao, former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen has claimed.

Filipino Pacquiao was outfoxed and outboxed by Mayweather in their highly-anticipated richest fight of all time in 2015, between two widely considered to be among the best boxers ever.

Ex-UFC champion McGregor then made his boxing debut against the American two years later and was stopped in the tenth round whereas Pacquiao lasted the full distance lost by unanimous decision.

But Sonnen believes the Irishman fared better against Mayweather than Pacquiao, and backed the Notorious in a fight against PacMan.

He said: ‘Pacquiao did much worse with Floyd than Conor did.

‘If that’s the only thing we have to compare it to, then let’s do the fight. Manny Pacquiao? One of the best ever?

‘All of those things are true but he’s already done it once and he did it with Floyd, who’s better than Pacquiao.

‘I’m just saying, we don’t how good Conor is.’

McGregor won some of the early rounds and recorded 111 punches to Pacquiao’s 81, although Mayweather, now 43, later admitted his only training for the 2017 fight was press-ups and sit-ups.

McGregor has openly spoken about his desire to return to boxing despite the prospect of a trilogy UFC fight against Dustin Poirier.
