McDonald’s permanently removes breakfast bagels and wraps from menus

That’s a WRAP! McDonald’s customers left devastated after fast-food chain officially REMOVES bagels and wraps from its breakfast menus across UK

  • Breakfast bagels and wraps have been off the menu since the pandemic began
  • McDonald’s confirmed today that both items will now be permanently removed
  • But fans accused the chain today of ‘the actual worst decision you’ve ever made’
  • McDonald’s reduces price of McMuffins to 99p today in attempt to soften blow

McDonald’s customers were left devastated today after the chain announced its breakfast bagels and wraps will be permanently removed from the menu.

Fans of the items tweeted crying emojis and said they were the ‘only breakfast items we ate in this house’ and that it was ‘the actual worst decision you’ve ever made’.

The options were both removed from a new reduced menu when the chain gradually reopened its stores in May 2020 after they had closed when the pandemic began.

Many customers had been hoping that the bagels and wraps would be reintroduced but McDonald’s confirmed today they were now ‘officially gone from the menu’.

The chain, which has about 1,300 outlets in Britain, added that it was reducing the price of McMuffins to 99p today via its app in an attempt to soften the blow.

The chain told MailOnline the bagels and wraps were first added to its offering in 2011 and had therefore spent nine years on the menu before being removed in 2020.

In a light-hearted 131-word statement intended to read like a celebrity break-up announcement, the chain tweeted: ‘It is with love and deep respect for one another that we announce that we are parting ways with Breakfast Bagels & Breakfast Wraps.

Despite speculation and following a trial separation period, Breakfast Bagels & Breakfast Wraps will not be returning to the menu. We adore each other deeply but our love for the iconic McMuffin was simply too hard to ignore.

‘We want our fans to know this is a mutual decision, to the extent that a bagel can make its own decision.

‘Thank you to everyone who has supported our union. As for the rumours that there will be a new breakfast bae on the scene later this year… no comment. But it’s now time to say, ‘that’s a wrap’. And bagel. And that the McMuffin is 99p today.’

But the news left McDonald’s fans furious, with one tweeting: ‘I’ve had a craving for a bagel for the past two years and now it will never be satisfied.’

Another said: ‘Whaaaat! I’ve been waiting 2 years for the breakfast wrap to return. That’s the only breakfast item I have.’

And a third tweeted: ‘The wraps and bagels were the only breakfast items we ate in this house.

‘I’ve not had a maccies breakfast since the start of the pandemic and now looks like that was the last one I’ll have. I hate them muffins and the flatbreads are even worse.’

Another tweeted: ‘Monday, First you took the big breakfast (we noticed) now you take our wraps, our bagels, I know it’s not Blue Monday it is in my heart.

‘Tomorrow will it be the full removal of porridge. Does Breakfast mean nothing? McMuffins are nothing without the others.’

McDonald’s did not provide a reason for ending its bagels and wraps offering, but one social media user who appeared to be in the know tweeted: ‘Wraps and Bagels used folded eggs, which was pasteurised egg poured into moulds on the grill.

‘This was a huge pain in the ass, you could only cook six to 12 at a time. Also, if sausage runs low, you’re only using half the grill space and sausage is in everything.’

A McDonald’s spokesman told MailOnline: ‘We can confirm that, following their temporary removal from the menu in March 2020, breakfast bagels and breakfast wraps will not be making a return.

‘We are always working on our menu and look forward to introducing some new breakfast items later this year.’
