Mike Brown has played his last match for Harlequins after the full-back was handed a six-week ban for his stamp on Tommy Taylor in the win against Wasps on Sunday.

The 35-year-old, who has been at Quins for 16 years, was held by Taylor in a ruck in the 44th minute before he stamped on the hooker’s face.

Now, following a hearing, Brown has been punished for his offence and as a result will miss Harlequins’ last four matches and any subsequent play-off games, with Quins currently fourth in the table.

The Premiership Final is due to be held at Twickenham on June 26 and Brown’s ban means his only chance of playing for the club again will be if Quins reach the final.

A Quins statement read: ‘Harlequins notes the outcome of the disciplinary hearing last night that saw Mike Brown handed a six-week suspension.

‘The Club will issue a statement in due course. Neither the Club nor Mike Brown will make any further comment before that time.’

Quins coach Adam Jones said on Sunday after the incident: ‘In those situations when you’re being held in it can look a lot worse than it was.

‘Of course it would be sad if that is the end. He is gutted. I’m sure the club will go balls-out to defend him as much as we can. Hopefully common sense prevails.’

It is a sad end to a brilliant stint at Quins for former England international Brown.

Brown won the 2011-12 Premiership with the club, starting in the final victory against Leicester Tigers, and won the Challenge Cup the previous season with a final win against Munster.

However, last month he confirmed he would be leaving the club after signing a two-year deal with fellow Premiership side Newcastle Falcons.
