Mikel Arteta insists he is not worried about his future despite Arsenal slipping to their fifth Premier League defeat of the season already at home to Wolves

  • Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence gave Wolves a 2-1 victory away against Arsenal
  • It was Arsenal’s fifth league defeat of the season in their opening ten matches
  • It leaves the Gunners 14th after their worst start to a season in 39 years
  • Mikel Arteta is not concerned over his future though despite the defeat

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is not concerned over his future despite Arsenal falling to their fifth Premier League defeat of the season against Wolves.

Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence scored to sink the Gunners to another loss, with defender Gabriel netting for Arsenal in a 2-1 defeat.

The loss was Arsenal’s third Premier League defeat in a row and means their start to the season is their worst in 39 years.

The Gunners sit 14th in the table after ten games but – a year to the day since Unai Emery was sacked as head coach – Arteta insists he is not worried about his own position.

He said: ‘It’s something that the day I decided to be a coach I know that one day I will be sacked or leave the football club.

‘I don’t know if it’s the day after I sign my contact, in a month’s time, a year’s time or six months’ time. I never worry about it.

‘My only concern is to get the best out of the players, give the best possible service to the club and become better and better.

‘I know, I repeat, in this profession, one day I will get the sack or leave but I don’t know when that is going to happen.’

It’s been a terrible start to the season for the Gunners who have also lost to Aston Villa, Leicester City, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The match was an opportunity for Arsenal to close the gap to the top to just five points, but the Gunners looked lackluster in front of goal.

One concern for Arsenal is the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has only scored two goals this term, despite challenging for the Golden Boot in the last couple of seasons.

Wolves did well to recover from the loss of Raul Jimenez who was taken off injured after a sickening clash of heads with David Luiz after an Arsenal corner.

The Gunners reacted well to Neto’s 27th minute goal, with Gabriel scoring just three minutes later.

However Podence scored a great Wolves goal to hand Nuno Espirito Santo’s side the points three minutes before half-time.
