Millie Mackintosh reveals she’s been ‘struggling to juggle motherhood and social media’

Millie Mackintosh enjoyed some time off from parenting duties on Wednesday as she headed out for a solo stroll in London.

The former Made In Chelsea star, 30, who is mum to Sienna, nine months, bundled up for the snowy weather in a beige teddy bear coat and white pom pom beanie.

The walk was no doubt a welcome break for Millie, who admitted on Instagram she is struggling to juggle motherhood and the time she spends online. 

Sharing a sweet photo cuddling her daughter Millie said in a lengthy post wrote: ‘Recently I have been struggling to juggle both motherhood and the time I spend online.

‘I am often conscious that social media can be seen as a platform that allows the unrealistic depiction of peoples lives to be shared however, I am proud of the community it has allowed me to create, and the opportunities it has brought me…

‘As with anything that you put your heart and soul into, there’s an underlying pressure, for me it’s to create and deliver the right content for you. I remind myself daily that it’s ok to wake up and think “what on earth am I going to talk about today?”

‘There’s poo all over the place, sick down my top, and my morning smoothie has just redecorated the kitchen ceiling, why would any of you be interested in hearing about that?’

Millie said she takes comfort in knowing she isn’t going through the highs and lows of motherhood alone and added she doesn’t want Sienna to grow up with ‘me always on my phone’.   

She continued: ‘I know that I have to make a conscious decision to put down my phone and create those boundaries, as I can’t just log off a computer, shut my office door, forget about work and put my mummy hat on. 

‘I’m sure you mummy’s out there feel the same, with nearly all of us working from home, it can be hard to leave work behind especially when you’ve had a tough day.

‘It’s about finding the right balance between the two, we’re not robots, we are only human, we can only try our best.

‘I’m trying to have a day at the weekend without my phone, as well as engrossing myself into more books before bed, instead of being on my phone, and getting stuck in that well known ‘scroll hole’.’         

Earlier this month, Millie said she ‘doesn’t feel any pressure’ to present a perfect depiction of her life online. 

In recent months, the reality star has been open about Sienna’s hip dysplasia, her post-partum figure and the struggles of being a first time mum in the pandemic. 

Speaking on the Scummy Mummies podcast, Millie explained: ‘I try not to think about every time I post how many people are gonna see it because the pressure of it makes you not want to post anything at all.  

‘But since becoming a mum and when I was pregnant I wanted to share in a more honest candid way and not just nice photos. 

‘I found I had a really great response from other mums and I’ve found it as a really good platform for connected with other people.’ 

Millie added: ‘I don’t feel that much pressure to show my life is perfect because I try to be more honest and share more experiences on my motherhood journey, it’s a weird time right, we’re not going anywhere we’re not getting dressed up, and I don’t feel particularly Instagrammable. 

‘People really love it when I show a day with Sienna, like the ins and outs. What I find hard is the balance of time and energy it takes having an account especially when you’re posting a lot yourself, being a mum and the balance of time I spend using social media. 

‘When I’m with Sienna I want to focus on her, that’s something I find as part of the juggling act of parenthood and trying to find a good balance with.’
