Myer asks for patience as Black Friday sales sees department store hit with mountain of deliveries

Myer asks for ‘patience’ as tsunami of Black Friday sales creates long backlog of deliveries – leaving many fearing Christmas presents won’t arrive in time

  • Thousands of Aussies are waiting for orders from department store giant Myer
  • Shoppers are being urged to ‘be patient’ as fulfilment teams are doing their best
  • It comes after Myer recorded its highest sales during its Black Friday sale event

Aussies are fearing their gift giving plans for the festive season will be ruined as thousands wait for packages to be delivered after Myer and David Jones stores were overwhelmed with orders thanks to Black Friday.

Retail giants Myer and David Jones are Australia’s best known high-end department stores for Christmas shoppers looking for gifts for the entire family.

But shoppers calling Myer’s customer service line after already waiting two weeks for their Black Friday orders were told to ‘be patient’ in waiting for their orders.

Myer confirmed to Daily Mail Australia on Thursday the store had recorded its highest volume of sales this year during its Black Friday and Cyber Weekend sales.

‘Due to the overwhelming response to our Black Friday and Cyber Weekend sales,’ a pre-recorded message says on the customer service line.

‘Please be patient as our fulfilment teams work to dispatch your items as quickly as possible.’

The computerised voice urged customers to visit Myer’s online store for information.

‘To ensure you get the best information and the same information our team has on hand,’ the voice says.

‘We suggest you go to myer.com.au and interact with our Myer Concierge virtual agent first.’

Myer told Daily Mail Australia shoppers had nothing to fear as it is on-track to making all Black Friday deliveries and is dispatching orders ahead of previous years.

Myer explained its fulfilment teams were working around-the-clock and said a small remainder of orders from the Black Friday and Cyber Weekend sales will be ready for dispatch by the end of the week.

Online shoppers looking for a last-minute gift must order by December 12 for standard shipping and December 19 for express delivery to receive their purchases just in time for Christmas.

Myer recommends shoppers in Western Australia select express shipping on orders by December 19 or click and collect as deliveries in the state are affected by railroad closures.

Likewise, David Jones’ Christmas delivery cut-offs are December 13 for standard shipping, December 18 for express shipping, December 23 for same day delivery and December 24 at 1pm for click and collect.

Northern Territory order cut-off dates are December 9 and December 16 for standard and express delivery, respectively, while shoppers in Western Australia have missed the Christmas cut-off of December 5.

David Jones was contacted for comment.
