Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow has avoided serious injury following a heavy clash during Saturday’s 4-1 defeat by Manchester United.

However, he is expected to be fit for Sunday’s trip to Wolves.

That will be of huge relief to boss Steve Bruce, who would have turned to No.3 stopper Mark Gillespie had Darlow joined first-choice Martin Dubravka in the treatment room.

Dubravka is out until December with a heel injury but Darlow has been outstanding in his absence this season.

Newcastle have faced a league-high 86 shots and it is in no small part down to Darlow that they have taken seven points from five games.
