‘Love triangle fight’ between two footy stars leaves one requiring surgery after dawn arrest – as he’s charged with domestic violence offenses

A ‘love triangle fight’ between an ex-NRL player Michael Lichaa and a current star has seen the former Bulldogs player in hospital and charged with domestic violence offences after police were called to his home in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

The former Bulldogs, 27, who was released by the club at the end of 2019, was allegedly involved in an argument with a current NRL player and a 26-year-old woman at his Connells Point home, in Sydney’s south, just before 5am Sunday. 

Lichaa is alleged to have assaulted the woman, who is known to him, severely injuring his arm in the process. He was taken to St George Hospital for treatment, then transported under police guard to the Sydney Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

 After being released from hospital, he was taken to Kogarah Police Station where he was charged with domestic violence offences including common assault and stalk/intimidate intending fear and physical harm.

NSW Police said he was granted conditional bail and will appear in Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday,  

 Police are investigating whether a misunderstanding sparked the alleged incident.

The NRL Integrity Unit has been notified of the incident.

Lichaa played 113 games for the Sharks and then the Bulldogs as well as representing Lebanon in five Test matches.

After being released by the Bulldogs, he played the 2020 season with NSWRL side, Cronulla-Caringbah.
