Cummings has faced huge backlash after it was revealed he drove to Durham for childcare reasons despite claiming he was recovering at home after suffering coronavirus symptoms.

The political strategist has refused to step down despite calls from MPs that he should quit, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson insisted he ‘acted responsibly, legally and with integrity.’

Cummings also defended his decision to take the lengthy drive North, given many families have been kept apart during the lockdown.
