Pauline Hanson is blasted by her own supporters after wearing a GOLLIWOG face mask while walking through the airport

Pauline Hanson has been spotted wearing a golliwog face mask as she travelled through an airport.

The One Nation leader posted an image showing her wearing the mask to her social media accounts on Wednesday afternoon.

‘I love my new golliwog face mask when travelling,’ Senator Hanson wrote in a caption alongside the photo.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson uploaded a photo of herself wearing a golliwog face mask to her Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon

She said the face mask had been given to her by a woman named Joan.

Her Facebook page was inundated with comments, with her supports taking issue with her wearing a face mask.

‘You’ve always been a trail blazer Pauline so please take off the bloody masks and lead the way,’ one person commented.

The golliwog was created by Florence Kate Upton in 1895 in her book ‘The Adventures of Two Dutch Dolls and a Golliwog’, where it was described as ‘a horrid sight, the blackest gnome’.

But by the 1980s, it was increasingly seen as an offensive racist caricature of black people.
