Paulo Dybala will not need surgery on his knee injury, Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo confirms with club evaluation ‘the best solution’ following his consultation in Barcelona

  • Juventus star Paulo Dybala has missed six weeks of action due to a knee injury
  • The 27-year-old flew to Barcelona earlier this week for a specialist consultation
  • Fears had grown that the Argentina international would require surgery soon
  • But boss Andrea Pirlo has revealed Dybala will not need to go under the knife

Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo has allayed fears that Paulo Dybala will require surgery on his knee injury and the club will now determine ‘the best treatment’ for him.

The 27-year-old has been out for six weeks with collateral knee ligament damage and has not featured since the club’s 3-1 win against Sassuolo on January 10.

The Argentina international flew to Barcelona with a member of Juventus’ medical staff earlier this week for a specialist consultation with a knee surgeon after not seeing any progress for more than a month.

There were fears surgery would be required as a result but speaking ahead of Juventus’ Serie A trip to Hellas Verona on Saturday, Pirlo confirmed Dybala would not have to go under the knife but could not provide a timescale for his return.

‘For Paulo, we evaluate the best solution to make him available as soon as possible,’ the former midfielder said.

‘Dybala is not at risk for an operation. He had a consultation and now we will see what the best treatment will be.

‘The recovery time of Dybala has unfortunately been prolonged and we haven’t been able to get him back.’

Dybala has started just eight Italian top-flight matches this season and featured in 11 league games overall, scoring twice and assisting as many.

And the Argentine star looks set to miss the crucial league fixture against Lazio next weekend as well as the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Porto three days later.
