People have accused fast food restaurants of sacrificing their in-person restaurant experience in favour of meeting the needs of online orders.
Posting anonymously on Reddit, people who live in the UK, have shared their most recent experiences of attempting to dine in at popular fast food restaurants and many claim the service has been ‘disappointing’.
The thread began after a man vented the frustration of his local KFC being full of delivery drivers and commenters quickly expressed their frustration at long waits with one claiming they were left hanging for a full hour, while deliveries were prioritised.
And others questioned why ‘lazy’ people are ordering food at home only for it to arrive ‘lukewarm’ when they could walk a short distance.
One worte: ‘Students on our street regularly get Greggs delivered. £2.49 delivery for a 79p sausage roll. Madness.
‘We’ve also had a Subway guy turn up at ours (wrong address, wanted 2 doors down). There’s a Subway 150m from us. I’m pretty sure this is a sign of the apocalypse.’

Fast food fans have complained about being left waiting for their meals, while ‘lazy’ customers who have ordered from home are prioritised
The man began the discussion saying: ‘Are all of the the delivery apps are ruining eating in fast food restaurants?
‘I went to eat in KFC before and at least a quarter of the restaurant was full with orange, blue and back square food carriers.
‘You could barely move near the till and sitting anywhere near them was just a constant rush of people with said bags rushing in and out.’
The thread quickly racked up lots of comments from people sharing similar experiences.
One person wrote: ‘Yep, it’s f****** c***. Nipped into Maccys with my kid on the way to an event it was just generally unpleasant. Had to barge through a bunch of people, they’ve nicked half the restaurant as a waiting area but the drivers still mill around on their phones etc.
‘Then, because it’s so busy, order takes forever, collection then takes forever despite saying your order is ready and yep, of course it wasn’t right.
‘Had the same experience a few times now in Maccys – honestly not sure I’ll bother with them again. They used to be clean and efficient but not anymore.’
A flood of responses to the thread revealed they’ve also had long waits at fast food restaurants since the increase in delivery apps
Another said: ‘In most of our local places delivery drivers take precedence. I’ve made the mistake of going to a KFC on a Saturday night and were genuinely waiting an hour while delivery after delivery came and went. Never again. Surely those stood in the restaurant should be served quicker than those sat at home?’
A third added: ‘If it means that the experience is no longer ‘fast’, then absolutely. I stopped at McDonald’s on Friday to quickly grab a bite to eat before a work night out. What would normally be very fast service turned into a nearly 20 minute wait for my food and I am sure it was due to the constant streams of delivery app orders that were going out.’
However, other responds claimed they haven’t suffered as a result of delivery drivers in their local restaurants.
‘They usually have people dedicated to delivery and separate people dedicated to walk-in/ drive-thru so I’ve never been bothered by this. Might also be because I order delivery a lot I’m forever thankful to the workers in these industries making my life easier,’ one wrote.
Another said: ‘Not near me, but I’m in a city centre with probably half a dozen to pick from. Have never seen a delivery driver in any.’
A few responses to the post admitted they enjoy using delivery apps and haven’t noticed any problems in their local fast food restaurants
