Pep Guardiola admits Kevin De Bruyne’s injury ‘doesn’t look good’ for Manchester City midfielder

Pep Guardiola has admitted he is concerned over the severity of Kevin De Bruyne‘s injury after the midfielder was forced off in Manchester City‘s 1-0 FA Cup semi final defeat to Chelsea.

The Belgian star pulled up after battling for the ball with N’Golo Kante less than three minutes into the second half, and he was unable to continue at Wembley.

Speaking after the match, the City boss revealed that there is a worry the club may be without De Bruyne ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.

‘He has pain. Tomorrow they are going to test, but they tell me it doesn’t look good,’ Guardiola told BBC.

The injury was a major blow to City, who fell behind seven minutes later as Hakim Ziyech finished into an empty net for the only goal of the game.

While Phil Foden came on for De Bruyne and was one of City’s best players for the rest of the match, losing the 29-year-old for a run of fixtures including an EFL Cup final and a two-legged Champions League semi final with Paris Saint-Germain would be significant.

De Bruyne has already suffered fitness problems this season, missing three weeks of action earlier this year with a hamstring injury.

Despite missing that period of football, the Belgian has still registered five goals and 11 assists in the league so far.

And he has been in even more impressive form in Europe, with two goals and four assists to his name in just five Champions League appearances.

Earlier this month De Bruyne extended his contract at City, signing a new four-year deal to increase his current wages of £300,00-a-week and keep him at the Etihad through to 2025

Although the quadruple is now no longer on for City, the potential of a first Champions League trophy as part of a treble winning season is still very much one that the club’s fans will be dreaming of.
