A pet parrot named Eric has saved his owner from a roaring house fire that completely destroyed the property by mimicking the sound of the home’s alarm.

Eric woke his owner Anton Nguyen as the flames began to take hold of the house in Kangaroo Point in Brisbane‘s inner-south about 2am on Wednesday morning.

Mr Nguyen’s home was completely gutted by the blaze but he escaped as the fire started to take hold after his parrot started making loud squawking noises to warn of the danger.

The life-saving parrot raised the alarm by yelling ‘Anton! Anton!’ as loud as he could before even the smoke detectors started to sound.

‘I heard a bang and Eric — my parrot — he started to yell so I woke up and I smelled a bit of smoke,’ he told ABC News.

‘I grabbed Eric, opened the door and looked to the back of the house and saw some flames.

‘And so I’ve grabbed my bag and took off and bolted downstairs.’
