Phoebe Burgess to be a ‘witness’ as ex-husband Sam faces court

Phoebe Burgess is to be ‘called as a witness’ when ex-husband Sam faces court over an intimidation charge involving her father Mitchell Hooke

Sam Burgess was charged with intimidating ex-wife Phoebe Burgess’ father, Mitchell Hooke, following an alleged incident at Mr Hooke’s home near Bowral on October 19.

And according to Saturday’s The Daily Telegraph, it’s understood Phoebe, 31, ‘will be called as a witness’ when the retired NRL star faces a hearing.

The 31-year-old sportsman has pleaded not guilty to intimidation, with his defence lawyer reportedly asking for the case to be adjourned until November.

Phoebe’s sister Harriet Hooke is also expected to be called as a witness.  

Sam quit rugby league on October 30, months after suffering a serious shoulder injury that would have needed two years to heal. 

Later that day, he was charged with intimidating Mitchell Hooke, following an alleged incident at Mr Hooke’s country estate near Bowral on October 19.

Police also served Sam with an AVO ordering him to stay away from Mr Hooke and his property. 

Phoebe was not at the Southern Highlands property when Sam was involved in an alleged altercation with her father.

In October, it emerged that Sam and Phoebe had split for a second time, after previously breaking up in December 2018 and reconciling in April 2019.

The Burgesses, who married in December 2015, share two children: three-year-old daughter Poppy and one-year-old son Billy. 

Sam reportedly moved out of their $3.8million home in Sydney’s Maroubra towards the end of September 2019. 

Phoebe became emotional while discussing the harsh realities of life as a single mother on The Morning Show last month.

‘There’s not makeup every day, it’s not glam being a single mum,’ she told hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.

‘I do have help [from] their grandparents. My parents are amazing,’ Phoebe said, appearing to hold back tears. 

The influencer explained that she tries to be honest with her followers about life as a single parent, insisting: ‘I don’t like to portray a perfect scenario. It’s not perfect.’
