A care home resident has delighted Good Morning Britain viewers after Piers Morgan asked fans to ‘flood’ her with cards on her 100th birthday.

Norah Gould will celebrate the milestone at her Bedfordshire care home where staff recently discovered a Covid outbreak, after a resident moved into the home from hospital with a false negative test.

With no idea how she’ll mark the occasion, hosts Piers Morgan and Susannah Reid tasked viewers with sending Norah as many birthday cards as possible so she doesn’t feel lonely on the day.

Viewers loved the idea, quickly wishing her a happy birthday, and found it hilarious when Norah teased that she’ll be opening cards ‘until next year’ .

Susanna, 50, asked: ‘What were you going to do to celebrate your birthday?

To which she replied: ‘Goodness knows, darling. No idea darling!’

Norah appeared on the show with care home manager Tanya White, who explained the home faced their first minor Covid-19 outbreak on New Year’s Eve, when one of their residents tested positive for coronavirus after a stay in hospital.

‘We’ve remained Covid free up until New Year’s Eve. We accepted an individual from the local hospital who came in Covid negative.

‘I went against the rules and did a weekly test and lucky I did because he was Covid positive and actually infected one of our other service users.’

Keen for Norah to have a good birthday despite the outbreak, Piers said: ‘We know that you like watching the programme and have loved having you on today.

‘We’re going to ask all of our viewers to send you a birthday card so you don’t feel like you’re on your own’

A delighted Norah replied: ‘That would be lovely, thank you very much’.

However she added: ‘But you don’t mean an individual card from everyone do you?”

‘Yes we do!’, replied Piers, ‘We’re going to flood you with cards.’

Norah replied: ‘It’ll take from now to next year!’

Viewers found the exchange hilarious and quickly took to Twitter to praise Norah and and insist that she looks ‘fantastic’ for her age.

One wrote: ‘Norah said: ‘You people will not have me reading cards until my 101st birthday! I love her voice. Happy Birthday Norah!’

‘Norah’s looking fantastic for 99 going on 100’, wrote another.

A third commented: ‘Happy 100th Birthday Nora. Enjoy your day and keep safe. From London Community Gospel Choir.’
