Real Madrid players ‘agree to forfeit their bonus payments’ if Los Blancos go on to win La Liga or the Champions League which could save club as much as £26 million

Real Madrid players have reportedly agreed to forfeit the bonuses they are entitled to if they win LaLiga or the Champions League.  

The club had budgeted for losses of £78.8 million for the season due to business closures caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and this decision from the players will save Los Blancos around £26m.

According to Spanish news outlet ABC.es the club saved £36.4m last season after Madrid players didn’t collect their bonuses for winning LaLiga, they also took a 10 per cent pay cut.

Madrid will face Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Liverpool 3-1 on aggregate in the last round.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are also just a point behind league leaders and city rivals Atletico Madrid in the race for the Spanish title. 

Real have been linked with summer moves for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland but will need to raise funds through players sales before they can buy.

However, the club will not sell stars such as Federico Valverde, Vinicius Junior and Arsenal loanee Martin Odegaard.

The LaLiga giants will also reject any offers for Thibaut Courtois, Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema. 

Instead Madrid will look to offload high earners such as Gareth Bale, Isco and Marcelo, whilst fringe players like Alvaro Odriozola, Mariano Diaz and Luka are set to be offered to other clubs. 

Madrid go to Getafe on Sunday evening, before making the journey to the south cost to play Cadiz on Wednesday.
