Australian actress Rebel Wilson has spoken out about her experiences with sexual harassment when working in Hollywood.

Speaking at the the Australian Open‘s Inspirational Women lunch on Thursday, the 39-year-old explained she felt ‘weird’ about publicly outing people because it would ‘destroy’ their lives.

‘I have obviously encountered instances of sexual harassment and I never actually publicly named the men involved,’ Rebel said in her speech, according to the Herald Sun.

She went on to explain: ‘You have this weird feeling, “well technically, it wasn’t that bad. Is it worth destroying people’s lives over?”‘

This was not the first time Rebel has spoken up about sexual harassment in the industry, previously tweeting about a man in a ‘position of power’ who requested sexual acts from her in 2017.

‘A male star, in a position of power, asked me to go into a room with him and then asked me repeatedly to stick my finger up his a**,’ she wrote on Twitter at the time.

‘All whilst his male friends tried to film the incident on their iPhones and laughed. I repeatedly said no and eventually got out of the room,’ Rebel added.

In a third tweet, Rebel wrote: ‘I’ve told hundreds of people in the industry the story in more graphic detail basically to warn them off this individual.’

The Pitch Perfect star also tweeted: ‘Earlier in my career, I also had a ‘hotel room’ encounter with a top director. I thought we were there to talk comedy. Nothing physical happened because the guy’s wife called.’

‘I was so naive the thought of anything happening apart from “work talk” didn’t even cross my mind,’ she added.

At the Australian Open event, Rebel also reportedly opened up about a stalker from rural Victoria that the police had to ‘remove’ from the courts during her defamation action against Bauer Media.

He had originally made his way into the Victorian courts in 2017, carrying flowers intended for the actress.

‘[He] said he had made a bedroom for me at his farm and he was going to lock me in there, and I love grow to love him,’ Rebel said.

Rebel chose to speak publicly about these experiences at the Australian Open event, as she hoped to inspire women to speak up and ‘advocate’ for themselves.
