Fans and pundits have hailed Tanguy Ndombele after the Tottenham Hotspur star netted an incredible goal against Premier League strugglers Sheffield United.

Jose Mourinho‘s side visited Bramall Lane looking to pick up all three points having won just one of their last six top flight outings, with Wednesday’s draw against Fulham compounding the Portuguese’s misery.

And Ndombele, a £65m signing from Lyon, helped steer his side towards an important win with a strike that will surely be on the shortlist for goal of the season come the end of the campaign.

Having won possession in the Blades’ defensive third, the Frenchman gives the ball to Steven Bergwijn who lifts it over the hosts’ back three.

Running onto it down the left channel of the penalty box, Ndombele uses his right foot to hook the ball over Aaron Ramsdale and into the far corner.

Sky Sports duo Roy Keane and Micah Richards lauded the 24-year-old after his wonderful finish, while Graeme Souness jested whether the midfielder truly meant to finish from that angle.

‘Save the best until last,’ Richards said. ‘Look at the cute little ball over the top [from Bergwijn] but that is a sublime finish. He has definitely meant that, where else was he meant to put it?

‘I think he is trying to get that back in the mixer,’ Souness quipped. ‘He isn’t going to tell you the truth is he?’

‘I think he meant it, great goal, world class. Great finish,’ Keane added. The official Tottenham Hotspur Twitter account responded to claims Ndombele did not mean to score by tweeting: ‘Tanguy Ndombele definitely meant it’.

Spurs fans took to social media to hail their midfielder for his mind-boggling finish.
